Shaler Township Postal Coverage
Official local evidence identifies five postal service areas that include at least part of Shaler Township. They are shared geographies, not five separate township boundaries. The county community-services directory ties each ZIP to a postal community and notes its relationship to Shaler or adjacent municipalities. The township office uses the Glenshaw 15116 mailing label, but Glenshaw itself reaches beyond Shaler. Check the exact address before deciding which local government record applies.
| ZIP | Verified service area | Postal label | Shaler boundary note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15101 | Allison Park, Shaler, Hampton, McCandless | Allison Park | Shared postal geography; not all of it is Shaler. |
| 15116 | Glenshaw and Shaler | Glenshaw | Township offices use this label; Glenshaw is not limited to Shaler. |
| 15209 | Millvale and Shaler | Pittsburgh/Millvale postal geography | Postal city can differ from municipal residence. |
| 15215 | Sharpsburg, Fox Chapel, Shaler | Pittsburgh/Sharpsburg postal geography | Shared with adjoining municipalities; verify the address. |
| 15223 | Etna and Shaler | Pittsburgh/Etna postal geography | Do not infer borough or township from the ZIP alone. |
The research did not locate an official USPS boundary map that lists Shaler street-by-street limits, a local PO-box-only ZIP, a unique ZIP, or a historic ZIP realignment. The documented answer is therefore address by address, not a guessed edge drawn from a postal label.
Verify Shaler Township ZIP Labels
Use the USPS ZIP Code Lookup for the delivery ZIP assigned to a submitted street address. Then use the county property route for municipal and parcel context. These sources answer different questions. USPS answers a mailing question. The county property system links a physical location to its assessment record. The GIS Viewer helps place the parcel on the map. A state municipal finder can be useful when a mailing city is ambiguous, but it should not replace the township or county custodian.
- Enter the complete address in the USPS form and retain the returned five-digit ZIP.
- Search the same address in the Allegheny County Real Estate Portal with house number, bare street name, and Municipality set to Shaler when known.
- Compare the property location and municipality with the postal result, rather than treating either one as the other.
- Open Allegheny County GIS to center the address and record the parcel context or PIN when available.
- Use the parcel’s legal description and the recorder route only when the question concerns a recorded document or ownership trail.
Once a ZIP has narrowed the area, the Shaler Township Street Directory supplies the address-by-address parcel and deed sequence. A ZIP by itself does not return a township-wide property or personal roster.
Search a Shaler Township Postal Area
The county property portal is the practical address tool for a Shaler location, but it does not have a ZIP field. Its address route accepts House Number, Street Name, and an optional Municipality. The county says Street Name should be entered without a suffix, and a street-only search can return possible matches. That is useful after a postal check identifies the general service area, but it is not a ZIP-wide search function.
The GIS Viewer similarly publishes address search, parcel information, layers, measurement, printing, sharing, and basemap tools. Its public information does not advertise a ZIP filter. Use it to orient a particular address and its parcel geography. The portal and the map should be read together: one supplies property-record context and the other supplies spatial context.
Some Shaler addresses use postal labels such as Pittsburgh, Etna, Sharpsburg, Allison Park, or Glenshaw. Each can be compatible with a Shaler Township location. Retain the municipality, PIN or map-block-lot, and source date whenever a result must be compared across postal and county systems.
Shaler Township ZIP Code Directory Portals
A ZIP-capable field appears in one limited place in the official sources: the Pennsylvania UJS Case Search has conditional property-oriented fields. It is a court-case search, not a property portal and not a residents list. When a case is already the proper record type, the fields may help narrow a parcel-related case. They do not turn a postal area into a directory of people or parcels.
| Portal | Field or control | Use | Boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| USPS ZIP Code Lookup | Street address, city, state | Verifies the delivery ZIP for that address. | Does not establish township jurisdiction. |
| Real Estate Portal | House Number, Street Name, Municipality | Finds an address or parcel property record. | No ZIP field or ZIP-wide output. |
| GIS Viewer | Address search and map tools | Centers an address and displays parcel context. | No ZIP filter is advertised. |
| UJS Case Search | Parcel Zip Code, Municipality, County, Address, City, State | Narrows a conditional property path in a case search. | Not a property or resident directory. |
| State ZIP/address mapping service | ZIP locate; street, city, state, ZIP | Provides mapping orientation. | Not parcel ownership evidence. |
The statewide UJS Case Search should be used only when a public docket is the right record. Court access has sealed, juvenile, limited-access, expunged, and other gaps. A case hit is a docket relationship, not a substitute for county property research.
Check Shaler Township Property Records
The free property form separates Address and Parcel Number routes. It is designed for address and parcel research. Owner-name searching, legal-description retrieval, and additional tax information are listed by the county as subscription additions, so a name-first search is not part of the public form. For an exact address, begin with the street and municipality fields instead of assuming the ZIP is a search key.
After an address result is selected, distinguish physical property location from owner mailing and tax mailing. The county states that these can be three separate addresses. A mailing entry may be outside Shaler, and a tax mailing line may differ again. Those fields explain record delivery and assessment administration. They should not be recast as proof of every person associated with the property.
The Property Record Card offers more detail than the web display. Allegheny County says a specific card can be requested free by email at LandHelp@AlleghenyCounty.us or as a paper copy at the County Office Building copy desk for $0.25 per page. Use the exact parcel identifier in a request.
Note: The portal’s missing ZIP field is an intended design limit, not evidence that a Shaler address is absent from county records.
Shaler Township Court Filters
UJS exposes a parcel postal field along with Parcel Municipality, Parcel County, Parcel Address, Parcel City, and Parcel State within one conditional property-oriented route. That makes it useful for narrowing a public court case when the case itself is already identified as relevant. It does not establish property ownership, current residence, or a complete list for any ZIP. Use the smallest set of fields needed, then read the docket and filing-court context before drawing a conclusion.
County property, recorder, and court custodians are separate. A property-address question starts with the Real Estate Portal or Address Management. A recorded-document question belongs with the Division of Real Estate. A docket issue belongs with the filing court. Sending a correction request to the actual keeper produces a cleaner record trail than asking one office to alter another office’s data.
Track Shaler Township Address Roles
Postal geography is only one layer of an address record. A situs is the physical property location used in an assessment record. Owner mailing and tax mailing may point to different destinations. A legal description, lot and block, or map-block-lot is the recorded-document anchor that can stay stable when a postal city or ZIP changes. This is why a ZIP entry should not be treated as an ownership or personal-history event.
- ZIP and ZIP+4
- A five-digit postal area and the extra four digits used to narrow delivery routing. The ZIP+4 is not a municipal boundary.
- PO-box ZIP
- A ZIP used for post-office box delivery. No Shaler-specific PO-box-only ZIP was verified in the research.
- Unique ZIP
- A ZIP assigned to a single organization or destination. No Shaler-specific unique ZIP was verified in the research.
- Carrier route
- A postal delivery grouping, not a township boundary or parcel identifier.
When a record gives only a postal place, compare it with the physical address, municipality, parcel context, and document date. The legal description and parcel identifier are especially useful when a street is split, readdressed, or served by shared postal geography.
Shaler Township Postal Geography
Shaler’s historical geography explains why a modern postal label can be a weak search term for older material. The township formed in 1847 from territory that included later Millvale and Etna and parts of Ross. Etna and Millvale incorporated in 1868, and Shaler became a first-class township in 1900. Older records may use one of those places, Allegheny County, or a community name instead of the current township label.
The township history also names Cherry City, Bauerstown, Cabbage Hill, Sharps Hill, Undercliff, Elfinwild, and Glenshaw. Search an old address with those locality terms, nearby landmarks, and parcel or legal-description clues. Do not replace the older location with a modern ZIP label and assume the geography stayed the same. No verified township-wide street-renumbering or ZIP-realignment year was found.
For municipal address authority, Shaler assigns or corrects the local address. Allegheny Address Management consolidates countywide data and handles county update review. That sequence is the appropriate response to a mismatch between local and county address information.
Shaler Township Postal Boundaries
ZIP boundaries are delivery routes, not municipal lines. An address carrying a Pittsburgh, Etna, Sharpsburg, Allison Park, or Glenshaw label can still be in Shaler Township, while a shared ZIP can also include a neighboring municipality. The exact address needs a USPS verification, a municipality check, and a county parcel review. This three-part approach is more dependable than relying on the city word printed beside a ZIP.
The township Building & Zoning route, county GIS, the conditional UJS fields, and municipal address tools each have different limits. Utility customer and delivery information are not part of the public-record chain. If a source is missing or protected, ask the custodian about the appropriate route rather than reconstructing sensitive location information from unrelated records.
Note: A shared postal area is useful for address verification, but it cannot substitute for a parcel and municipality check.
